The program will introduce student to the field of phlebotomy and provide them with basic and advanced skills in both theory and clinical practice and prepare the students for the National Certification exam. This program meets all California requirements for students to become a California Licensed Phlebotomist (CPT1). This program is for anyone who with on-job experience and those without any prior experience in phlebotomy who want to obtain a CPT1 license.

What will I do in this field?
You would be able to perform venipunctures (draw blood) and perform capillary punctures.
What prerequisites are required?
High School Diploma or GED
What skills will student have upon completion of the program?
Infection Control concepts, perform venipunctures, capillary punctures, legal and HIPAA regulations. Be able to perform point of care of testing and be prepared to take the National Exam for Certification.
What are some career opportunities?
After obtaining a CPT1 the students are able to work in hospital, multi-specialty clinics, mobile laboratories, and reference laboratories (Quintiles Laboratory and Lab Core).
What is the projected growth for this Job? What’s the career outlook?
Employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 27 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform blood work.
